Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Mrs Cook and Mr Slaney

In Year 4, we strive to be the best versions of ourselves and will always try to do our best. We love to learn and work together whilst in school and are prepared to rise to any challenge put before us.

Every day is fun filled with opportunities to explore and discover new learning. In Year 4 we focus on our English, Maths and Time Tables in a morning and then broaden our learning through topic work and various other subjects which include:

  • RE
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • PE – We go swimming on a Wednesday and have P.E. on a Thursday
  • Computing
  • Art
  • French
  • PSHE
  • Swimming

Maths and Multiplications!

Our Maths lessons include lots of problem solving, mathematical working and thinking and opportunities for deeper learning. In Maths we will be follwoing Abacus Mathematics Scheme as the basis of our progressive curriculum across the whole school. This ensures that learning is consolidated and built on year after year.

Also in Year 4, we are working hard to learn our ‘Times Tables’. Time is given every day to practice our times tables and we do this through songs, rhymes, challenges and structured tasks. It is important we keep our skills sharp, so makes sure you click on any the links below to help and see our recent post for how you can support your child with their times tables knowledge.

PE

On Wednesdays we go swimming. The children are making brillant progress in their water safety and swimming skills. Children must bring a swimming kit every week, including a swimming cap for girls and boys if their hair covers their eyes when it is wet. Your child is allowed to bring goggles but you must have completed a goggle form before they are able to use them in their swimming lessons. All jewellery must be removed before swimming, including earrings.

We currently have Fencing on Thursday afternoons. Please ensure you child has a named PE kit in school for this. All jewellery must be removed before lessons, including earrings.
