Welcome to Year 6! We are excited to share this important and enjoyable year with your child. Year 6 is a time for children to grow in confidence, develop independence and prepare for the transition to high school, all while enjoying a wide range of exciting learning experiences.

We love learning together and encouraging every child to achieve their very best. Our mornings focus on developing key skills in English and Mathematics, including times tables, mental maths and problem-solving. In the afternoons, we explore a variety of engaging subjects that help broaden our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.

P.E. and Swimming

• P.E. lessons take place on Fridays. Please ensure your child comes to school with appropriate PE clothing and suitable footwear.
• Swimming takes place on Thursdays. Please remember to send your child with the necessary swimming kit.

Homework

Reading

Children should read at least four times each week. Please support your child by signing and updating their reading record regularly, whether they are reading independently or with an adult. We will check reading records on a Tuesday.

Spellings

Children will have an individual spelling test each Friday. Regular practice at home will help them succeed.

Mathematics

Maths homework will be given out every Monday and should be returned by the following Monday. We also encourage children to continue practising their times tables regularly.

Celebrating Success

We love celebrating achievements in Year 6! Each week we recognise children who have demonstrated our school values, shown a positive attitude to learning or made a special effort in class.

Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for our Friday Celebration Assembly, where we share and celebrate these wonderful achievements together.

Moving to high school is an exciting milestone, and we are here to support every child through the transition process. Please see the attached information about the High School Transition Programme.
